The Moto Classic line of batteries was originally conceived to provide an alternative to the ingenious MotoBatt line which, at the time, reduced 184 OEM part numbers down to just 34 by using the QuadFlex terminal and spacer system.  MotoBatt achieved its desire to simplify the staggering number of motorcycle battery part numbers and increase overall performance by maximizing all available space within the battery. However, they unintentionally alienated a few consumers that did not require those awesome benefits.

YTX7A vs. YTZ10S vs. MBTZ10S Case Study

Here is an example of where more may not have meant better. Many motor scooters utilize the YTX7A-BS which has 6 amp hour (Ah), around 85 cold cranking amps (CCA) and typically retails for $35-50. This battery happens to be the same physical size as the YTZ10S often used in high performance bikes.  It has around 8 Ah, 150 CCA and retails for between $65-120 depending on the brand. MotoBatt in its effort to reduce SKU count combined the two batteries and created the MBTZ10S which has 8.6 Ah, 190 CCA and retails between $79-99. That is a great deal for the street bike guys, but is overkill for the scooter owners—they do not need that much power and don’t want to pay for the added perk regardless if it came with a 2 year warranty.

We listened to the concern and created the Moto Classic YTX7A which utilizes some of the internal achievements, such as AGM technology, pioneered by MotoBatt and Yuasa while adhering to traditional external battery appearances.  Our version increased amp hour capacity to 7 Ah from 6 Ah, increased cold cranking amps to 100 CCA from 85 CCA, and kept the retail price similar to the competition allowing the scooter owners to benefit from a better AGM battery with a longer warranty without having to fill and charge a new battery or shell out cash for performance they never really needed in the first place.
